Suicide Prevention Fence Considered for Penobscot Narrows Bridge

In the wake of a Bucksport Middle School teacher taking her life by jumping from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Sunday, the state legislature considers erecting a suicide-prevention fence to prevent more deaths.

The proposal was forwarded by Representative Joe Brooks of Winterport and it moved through committee without debate and now moves forward for consideration.

I suppose there was a little romanticism thrown in too for good measure, because I saw the role of a journalist falling some where between Under Dog and Superman. State Police say a 24 year old man from Albion was killed when he apparently lost control of his vehicle last night on Route 9 last night in the snowy conditions.

Update: Prison Escapee Located

Update: 12:15pm Corrections officials report Michaud's  been taken into custody by Probation Officers in Lewiston and will be transported to Androscoggin County Jail.

Corrections officials have issued information to the media regarding this man who apparently walked away from the Downeast Correctional Center in Machiasport.

46 year old John Phillip Michaud was serving a two-year sentence on burglary and theft charges and was due to be released in May of next year.

According to Scott Fish with the Maine Department of Corrections, Michaud walked away from the minimum security facility yesterday afternoon.
