It’s an Epidemic That Can Be Stopped

Last week Governor Paul LePage ended his State of the State speech by calling on state lawmakers and citizens to recognize there's a serious epidemic in Maine and it's drug addiction.

One woman in particular was pleased the Governor addressed the issue and agrees with beefing up law enforcement, but, she cautions that's only part of the solution for reversing the powerful grip the disease has on those who struggle to regain control of their lives.

The problem can in fact be reversed, but it will take time, a multifaceted approach, and the commitment from citizens to prioritize financial resources.

Aroostook County Poachers Face Charges

There are laws against poaching wildlife in Maine and Wardens are cracking down.

Seven residents of Allagash, and one Palermo man were charged Thursday with various poaching offenses from hunting with a suspended license to possession of a moose killed at night.

Come Swing with Us and Support Music Education

Yeah, the weather stinks right now but you have a chance to shake off the effects of cabin fever and come swing with us, while supporting music education.

Thursday night, the Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden will come to life with the sounds of live music and all the proceeds from the event will help the school build a sound-proof room for music students in the school.

So Who Likes this Cold Weather?

Maine's maple syrup producers like the cold weather and they're already tapping trees for sap.

Many of us "old timers" relate to the image of buckets, or milk jugs, attached to trees in the spring in Maine, to capture the naturally running sap, and many of us assumed the sap ran from the top of the mature tree, down to the ground.

However, emerging science suggests otherwise, and the innovation in sap collection could result in quite a boon for the maple syrup industry in New England.
