The City of Bangor is encouraging area artists to design artistic banners, to be displayed on the Pickering Square Parking Garage.

In the heart of Downtown Bangor, the parking garage is a necessity, that provides parking for shoppers and merchants alike. But the building, while functional, is not very attractive. So city officials have proposed the idea of hanging colorful, artistic banners on the building, to improve the appearance, and add to the historic nature of the region.

Tanya Emery, Director of Community and Economic Development, said in a press release that the banners should feature artwork 'referential to Bangor's past, present, and future, while also providing helpful information such as symbols for parking and transit.' Themes, colors, and forms will need to be inclusive of the values, culture, diversity, experiences, interests, and/or history of the City of Bangor and its citizens.

Artists will get an honorarium for their work, and the final artwork will be displayed on large, double-sided banners approximately four feet wide and thirty inches long, that will then hang from the Pickering Square parking garage.

Proposals need to be back to the city by Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 by 2:00 p.m. For more information, log onto the City of Bangor's website.
