A man has been arrested in connection with a pair of robberies in Machias on Monday.

Police say the first robbery occurred around 9 a.m. at Main Street Discount.

The owner of the store told WABI the suspect put a gun to her head. She said she opened the register, and the man grabbed the money that was inside.

Then, at around 9:30 a.m., police responded to a robbery at Camden National Bank on Route 1.

Grady Dwelley, chief of the Machias Police Department, told the Bangor Daily News there was "a sizeable amount of money taken from the bank.”

The suspect was located on a side street in the area of the bank and arrested without incident.

Police are expected to release the man’s name on Tuesday, when he's formally charged in connection with the robberies.

Detectives say they're investigating whether a second person was involved in the crimes.
