A construction worker suffered serious injuries Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while standing next to his truck after adjusting some roadside sings on the Maine Turnpike in Gray, police said.

Danny Lowe, 58, of Yarmouth, a Pike Industries employee, was struck by a car driven by Alphie Lambert, 60, of Biddeford, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release Tuesday.

Lambert's car drifted into the breakdown lane and struck a second Pike Industry truck and then Lowe, the release said.

Police said the impact threw Lowe into the travel lanes, and then he quickly crawled back to safety in the breakdown lane.

Troopers cited Lambert for failing to comply with the state’s “move over” law, which requires motorists to move over for emergency vehicles, wreckers and construction vehicles that are in the breakdown lane with their emergency lights on.

Police said Lowe is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
