If finding my way to the Bangor Department of Motor Vehicles was part of a driving test, I would have failed yesterday. Miserably.

Maine's Real ID Required Me to Renew My License In Person

It's that time of life when I had to renew my driver's license and I decided to get a Real ID, so I had to do it in person. I had it all planned out. Work, then a workout at Planet Fitness, followed by a trip to DMV to take care of my license. From Broadway it would be a quick drive across Griffin Road to Airport Mall and the DMV.

My First Info About Where the DMV is Located Sent Me in the Wrong Direction

Then I was asked if I knew that DMV had moved. I had no idea! The problem with waiting six years to renew your license is that things change and no one tells you. I mean, okay, they probably did announce the change, but I don't remember hearing it. So I asked my source where it's located now and she said she thought it was behind Penquis on Harlow Street. I hopped in my CRV and headed to Penquis...except it's not the Department of Motor Vehicles behind their offices. It's Bangor City Hall's temporary home while the real City Hall is being renovated. Now what?

When In Doubt...Google!

Google. It's my favorite resource and one I really should have consulted first. And there it was...the Bangor DMV office is at 396 Griffin Road. An hour and a half later, I had completed my eye test and information for my Real ID. If you haven't picked yours up yet, consider it. By this summer, you're going to need it to board any domestic flight and get into many federal buildings. And it was easy! As a matter of fact, it was easier than finding the DMV. At least for me!
