Well-Being Check Leads To Discovery Of Meth Lab In Hermon, Police Say
Police say a meth lab was discovered when police went to a house in Hermon Wednesday night to check on the welfare of three children who live in the home.
Franklin Avery, 28, who lives at the home on New Boston Road, has been charged with aggravated operation a meth lab, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release Thursday.
Avery lives in the basement of the house and is not the owner of the home. Police said the basement was the site of the meth-making operation.
Avery is being held at the Penobscot County Jail, and DHHS is working to ensure the children are cared for.
It was the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency's sixth meth-related response this year. Last year, there were a record 125 meth-related responses by the agency.
