The Eastern Maine Walk to End Alzheimer's is coming up in October. Organizers are throwing a kick-off party tonight to get folks signed up, and enjoy some free food.

Organizers for the Eastern Maine Walk to End Alzheimer's are throwing a kick-off party  tonight at Dysart's on Broadway in Bangor. The party starts at 5PM in the Grandlaker Room with free food. Walk organizers will be signing folks up for the walk, which is set for October 20.

In a press release, Kelly Gilks, a volunteer on the walk’s planning committee says:

It may seem early for talk of an event in October, but awareness is key. We need to start early to help bring an awareness to why the Eastern Maine Walk is so important. We just want to ensure that everyone in Eastern Maine living with any aspect of this disease knows they are not alone. Even if you are not ready to sign-up to walk, please come down to show your support for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and learn what the Alzheimer’s Association is all about.

Currently, there's 5.7 million American’s living with Alzheimer’s Disease. Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and the only leading cause of death that does not have a prevention, treatment or cure.
