This week the Thomas Hill Standpipe will open for the annual summer tour.

The Thomas Hill Standpipe opens for a summertime tour this week. The Standpipe tours give folks a rare opportunity to climb to the top for a 360-degree view of Bangor and beyond. The Summer Sunset Tour is Wednesday, July 24, from 4-8p.m.

2019 Thomas Hill Standpipe Tours:

  • Wednesday, July 24 – 4:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9   – 3:00pm – 6:00pm
  • December Holiday Tour – To Be Determined

The tours are free of charge. It should be noted the standpipe is not handicap accessible, with 100 stairs leading to the promenade deck.

The standpipe was built in 1897 and is designated as a National Historic Landmark by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.

UPDATE: According to a Facebook post from FOX-TV22, there will be crews replacing a water main in the area during the tour, so traffic on Thomas Hill Road will be reduced to one-way. Cars will enter on the Union Street end of Thomas Hill Road, and exit onto Ohio Street.
