Penobscot Narrows Bridge

With less snow and dryer conditions than usual the fort will open for April Vacation.

When the moon is full and bright it sometimes seems close enough to touch. This Saturday take the 50 second ride 420ft to get that much closer to touching the moon.

After numerous people have ended their life by jumping off the bridge, prevention has become a very important focus. Instead of installing a suicide prevention fence or net, suicide hotline phones have been installed at both ends of the bridge.

In the wake of a Bucksport Middle School teacher taking her life by jumping from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Sunday, the state legislature considers erecting a suicide-prevention fence to prevent more deaths. The proposal was forwarded by Representative Joe Brooks of Winterport and it moved through committee without debate and now moves forward for consideration.

If your travels take you across the Penobscot Narrows Bridge that spans between Prospect and Verona Island the Maine Department of Transportation is giving you a heads up. Bridge inspections are planned and that will impact traffic.
