Gov. Janet Mills on Friday announced that starting Tuesday, March 23, Maine residents 50 years old and older will be able to receive COVID-19 vaccine.

Also as part of the accelerated schedule, all Maine residents 16 and older will eligible for vaccination Beginning Monday, April 19.

Mills said the accelerated timeline anticipates an increase in vaccine supply from the federal government. Also, some Maine vaccine providers are reporting availability of appointments, she said.

The vaccine schedule is now as follows:

  • March 3: Age 60 and older
  • March 23: Age 50 and older
  • April 19: All Maine residents age 16 and older

The news comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday issued guidance reducing the distance students must remain apart from 6 feet to 3 feet in classroom settings where mask use is universal.

Vaccination sites can be found at the state’s vaccine website.
