You know it's almost spring when the PCCA Sportmen's Show comes to the University of Maine.

Each year, the Penobscot County Conservation Association hosts the show that brings together all things pertaining to the outdoors. Folks will find displays and vendors from fishing camps, hunting camps, boat sales, kids' nature camps, environmentalists, and a lot more. Need a gun safe? You'll find someone who's selling them. Thinking about buying a new 4-wheeler? They can help.

Along with the vendors and displays, there will be workshops and demonstrations. No big surprise to anyone who's met me, my favorite is the hunting dog demonstrations. These are some amazing animals who can sniff out a hidden item from across the room. And they're cute too!

The Sportsmen's Show has been a tradition in my family since my grandfather was alive. He insisted we had to go and see Bud Leavitt every year when I was a kid. Now, it's become an annual excursion to try and beat my son at target practice with BB guns.

Maybe while the wives and girlfriends are at the Varney Buick What Women Want Expo in Bangor this Saturday, the guys could head to the University of Maine in Orono for the Sportsmen's Show. Or, plan it so everyone can attend both. It's easy since the Sportsmen's Show goes on from Friday through Sunday!
