A truck driver was able to escape unhurt when his rig full of potatoes burst into flames in Etna.

It was just after 11:30 Thursday night when State Police say 57-year-old William Estabrook of Houlton heard a strange sound from his rig. He told police that he heard a series of popping sounds and pulled the truck over in the breakdown lane near mile marker 143 of I-95. That's when he discovered the truck was on fire. Estabrook got out just in time and wasn't hurt in the incident that destroyed his truck.

State Police, Clinton Police, and fire departments from Pittsfield, Burnham, and Clinton responded and determined that a mechanical defect was responsible for the fire. The interstate was shut down for about 45 minutes before one lane was opened to traffic.
