Maine Deputies Arrest a Man for Illegally Possessing a Firearm

Deputies conducting a child well-being check arrested a man with firearm restrictions from Florida.

Penobscot Deputies Arrest a Florida Man During a Child Well-Being Check in Maine

Lardarrias Williams, 30, originally from Florida, was at a Plymouth home when Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a report of possible child abuse.

Officials went to the residence at approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday after receiving concerning information about the welfare of children in the home.

Department of Health and Human Services personnel examined the children at the scene and determined that they were safe to stay another night in the residence.

Maine Deputies Search a Plymouth Home for Firearms During Child Well-Being Check

During the course of that investigation, the deputies learned that one of the people involved, Lardarrias Williams, may have a firearm.

A check into Williams' background revealed that he has a prior felony conviction in Florida for domestic violence assault, which makes him a prohibited person under federal and state law from possessing firearms.

The deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence and seized a handgun and assorted ammunition.

Deputies Arrest a Man from Florida for Illegally Possessing Firearms in Maine

Williams was subsequently taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Penobscot County Sheriff's Officials say they will continue to work closely with DHHS to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
