The city wants you to cruise your hood and tell them what you think.

Yup, that's right. The city of Bangor is looking more deeply into their neighborhoods as far as what it's like for pedestrians. Walking conditions, sidewalks, traffic, they want to know it all, according to the BDN. But rather than send out a bunch of hoity-toity people to make some report, they want you to let them know what's up.

As a teen growing up in Bangor, I spent a lot of time roaming the streets. I didn't have a driver's license, and hated bumming rides off my friends all the time. So I got to know the city pretty well. Some neighborhoods are awesome for going on walkabout. Others not so much.

This is part of a larger program in conjunction with AARP.

I always thought AARP was just someone that sent me stuff about my retirement, even though I haven't even hit 50 yet. But, they have a national version of the very same program Bangor is participating in, with this "Walk Audit", as they call it. But ultimately, in theory it's supposed to help gather data to upgrade the experiences for walkers.

If you want to get involved, you can even fill out the city's survey right here, and help them gather the info they're looking for. Plus, it's a great excuse to do all the things you have to do every day anyway. Like walk the dog, or get away from your family for five minutes for some peace and quiet. And you make a difference, right?
