Old Town Hosts Maine Little League Baseball Championship

The championship game was on Saturday, the temperatures were hot and so were the players. Hot as in hot pitching, some great plays and big league hits

The tournament ran during the week with the final game on Saturday to crown a champion. The last two teams in the one-game championship game to get a State winner - Yarmouth and Sanford

Old Town Little League hosted the tournament at K of C field in Old Town

Old Town as the host provides all that is required. And I know a couple of people who are on their board.

So, short story: I was asked to fill in for the game as the PA announcer. Cool for me!

Right behind home plate, nothing but screen in front of me and I sat next to the scorekeepers on one side and the tournament director on the other

Old Town Police Chief Scott Wilcox was the tournament director.

Nine- to 11-year-olds in Little League play six-inning games. It was a close game with the final score: Yarmouth 9, Sanford 8. Yarmouth wins.

Both teams' players get a pin. Be proud.

Now Yarmouth goes to Massachusetts next for the regional finals beginning next week.

Go proud young men as you represent Maine in the next tourney.

During a break in the game between innings one of the umpires came over to get a drink of water and said to me you sound like a radio guy doing these announcements, have you ever thought of doing radio. I replied you think I could actually do that? Then he said who are you. I told him. We laughed. Nice to meet you, Dennis Farnham. Thanks for listening.

Actually, before my first radio gig, as a high schooler, I got a job as an off-ice official for a minor hockey league. I took the job on one condition: I could be the PA announcer and announce the goals and penalties. So I've come full circle

Thanks for the opportunity Old Town although the regular announcers' jobs are not in any jeopardy.
