A Maine man suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash in Northport.
A Fatal Crash in Northport Claimed the Life of a 31-Year-Old Man
Cody Arsenault, 31, was killed in a crash that happened as he was passing another vehicle on Atlantic Highway.
It was just before 10:30 Wednesday morning when the Waldo County Regional Communications Center learned of a two-vehicle crash on Atlantic Highway in Northport. Members of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police and several local fire departments and EMS responded to the scene, just south of the Belfast town line.
Police Say the Deceased Was Killed When His SUV Collided with a Tractor-Trailer
Officials Say the initial investigation revealed the crash involved a Subaru Outback, driven by Arsenault, and a Freightliner tractor-trailer with an enclosed semi-trailer, driven by Alejandro Sicaju, 51. Arsenault was traveling behind a vehicle that began to slow in order to make a right-hand turn. Arsenault crossed over the center line to go around the vehicle and collided head-on with Sicaju's northbound truck.
The Truck Driver in the Northport Crash Sustained Minor Injuries
Mr. Asenault was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported by an ambulance and later flown by Life Flight of Maine for medical treatment. Mr. Sicaju sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Waldo County General Hospital for medical treatment.
Traffic on Atlantic Highway was closed for several hours while the police investigated and cleared the scene.
