A man arrested Thursday at a Bangor hotel on a fugitive from justice charge was released from jail after authorities in Florida declined to have him extradited back to that state.

Michael Tegge, 48, of Colorado, was wanted in Florida for failure to register as a sex offender. Bangor police located Tegge at the Residence Inn in Bangor and placed him under arrest. Tegge also was wanted in Nebraska for violating that state's sex offender laws.

WGME reported that Tegge was released from Penobscot County Jail on Friday when prosecutors in Florida declined to have Tegge returned to that state to face charges.

Bangor police originally charged the hotel's manger with failing to provide occupancy records in connection with the investigation. However, police dropped those charges
