Mainers on The Titanic Author To Tell the Story Via Zoom

Who hasn't heard of the sinking of the Titanic. One of the most famous marine stories in history.

But maybe you didn’t know that there were 14 Mainers on board the ship on that fateful day, and only 7 of them survived. Most were from M.D.I.

That from  a book from Stockton Springs resident Mac Smith called Mainers on the Titanic.

The book has the stories of the Mainers who made it and those who didn’t make it.

Mac Smith is a Navy veteran of the First Gulf War and a former news reporter for the Bar Harbor Times. He has written 5 books.

And if you have interest in his story telling and the history of Maine’s involvement in the Titanic tragedy, Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport has a speaker series session with Mac Smith on Thursday the 26^th of this month at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

It is free, but you must register with Penobscot Marine Museum and there is a suggested donation of $5

110 years have passed, 1500 passengers died, but here is the story of 14 Mainers who were aboard the Titanic.

Most survivors were women, because the women had the first access to the lifeboats.

The story is about the survivors and also about those that perished in the sinking.

And the book covers from their boarding to the sinking, rescue, and arrival back in the country, and, for those who did not survive, their final coming ashore in Halifax, Nova Scotia
