Update, Nov. 2: A jury has acquitted Thomas Wentworth of allegations he had sex with his dog and then tied a bag filled with ether around its head, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Thomas Wentworth, 55, of Durham was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing and cruelty to animals, WGME reported.

According to court documents, Wentworth also threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and bury her body in his yard.

In a statement written by the ex-girlfriend in January, the woman said she "was heading up stairs and saw him having sex with his dog.”

“He put ether in a trash bag, put it over his dog’s head until she died, then used the back hoe to get rid of her," the woman wrote in the statement included in court documents. "And also he told me he can do the same to me.”

Wentworth maintained his innocence, saying he put the bag over the dog's head because he didn't want to see it suffer.

Prosecutors told the Sun Journal the jury apparently did not believe the victim's statement.
