Organizers have decided to cancel this summer's Maine Lobster Festival, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's hard to imagine a summer without the Maine Lobster Festival, but with the current health restrictions and social distancing, that's where we're headed. Organizers say, after talking with government officials and monitoring updates from the Maine CDC, they've decided the safest strategy is to cancel the festival for this year. We'll miss the Sea Goddess pageant, lobster boat and great crate races.

The festival is about more than those bright red crustaceans, however. It's about helping the community through its non-profit fundraising, including a college scholarship program. Organizers say they plan to find other ways to fund the scholarship and will continue to promote the lobster industry throughout the year.
