One person was killed in a head-on crash in Androscoggin County after her vehicle hit a snowdrift.

A South Paris Woman Died in the Crash in the Town of Poland

Heather Keniston, 50, of South Paris, Maine was killed in the crash that happened Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office, Keniston was driving her Mazda CX-5 eastbound on Bakerstown Road in the town of Poland at around 2:30 in the afternoon when her vehicle struck a snowdrift. Officials say Keniston lost control of the vehicle and veered into the westbound lane, colliding with a Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by Robert Clougherty, 70, of Casco. The snowdrift was caused by high winds from Tripp Lake.

Two People in the Vehicle Hit By Keniston's Car Were Not Hurt

Mr. Clougherty and his passenger were not hurt in the crash, however Keniston succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. Deputies say Ms. Keniston was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing her seat belt. The crash remains under investigation but officials say it's believed she may have been driving too fast for the hazardous road conditions.

Maine State Police issued a warning to drivers on Tuesday morning about the potential for blowing and drifting snow, due to winds that were expected to gust up to 40 mph. Route 1A in Mars Hill was one road that was closed completely to traffic on Tuesday due to drifting snow that made it impassable.
