A couple from Knox faces charges after police found their 3-year-old child wandering unsupervised in the parking lot of of the Rockland Ferry terminal.

Rockland police located the child on April 27 at about 9 a.m. After posting the child's photo online, police were able located the parents -- Paul Mahonen Jr., 43, and Nicole Caven-Gardner, 32 -- at a nearby hotel room.

The child was taken to the hospital, where it was found the child "had been exposed to/ingested illicit drugs," according to a press release.

Police found a large amount of drugs in the hotel room. Mahonen was charged with aggravated drug trafficking. Caven-Gardner was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Additional charged are expected. The investigation is continuing.
