Members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested a 62-year-old Howland man last Wednesday after a six-month-long investigation, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Department's Public Information Officer, Shannon Moss, says Detectives from the North division of Major Crimes executed an arrest warrant tied to six different charges on James Cameron, two for having prohibited contact with a minor and four counts of violating the Sex Offender Registration process.

Cameron was arrested on January 28th and booked into the Penobscot County Jail, but was later released, after an appearance in court, authorities say.

"Cameron had an initial appearance on January 30, 2026, at the Bangor Penobscot County Judicial Center. Cameron pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. James Cameron is scheduled back in court on March 3, 2026, at the Lincoln District Court."

Moss says the State Police investigators worked in tandem with members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, the Maine Sex Offender Registry, and the State Bureau of Identification, along with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, to apprehend Cameron.
