Cops Say Guy Stole Vehicle In Milford & Got Hit With Gun Theft Charges, Too
The owner of a vehicle that was stolen from the Freshie's Store in Milford Friday evening had the vehicle returned to them after authorities caught up with the person they believe is responsible for the theft.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers and the Penobscot County Regional Communications Center got a call just before 8 PM Friday stating that the vehicle had gone missing.
"The complainant was unsure of the vehicle's direction of travel. Deputies responded to the area, attempting to locate the car. A short time later, deputies located the vehicle on Main Road in Greenbush and stopped it. The suspect exited the car and was taken into custody."
The Sheriff's office says 41-year-old Jerry Ford, from Milford, stole the vehicle. It just so happens that the owner's pistol and rifle were also in the vehicle when they say Ford took it.
Authorities say Ford is not supposed to possess firearms, so along with being arrested and charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking, Ford was also charged with possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. Both of those crimes are felonies. And since his license is suspended, Ford's also being charged with Operating after Suspension, which is a misdemeanor.
