Members of the local Bangor Elks Club #244 made a major donation this week that will ensure the Brewer Food Pantry will have the ability to help families and individuals suffering from food insecurity.

For those unfamiliar with what the Elks Club is all about, as they say on their website:

"As part of the Elks organization, our Bangor Lodge is very involved in veterans and family activities. Like other Elks Clubs, we are a place where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up. Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet needs, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans."

The entire donation was a combination of 2500 nonperishable food items for the Gratitude Grant plus the 1000 dollars in gift cards Hannaford donated for the Brewer Food Pantry.

Johnathon Dionne, assistant manager of Brewer Hannaford, and a crew of hard-working Hannaford employees joined the Elks and volunteers from the Brewer Food Pantry in the blazing hot sun Tuesday as they packaged up the donations.

Dionne was able to load stuff on their pickups with the fork truck so the Brewer Food Pantry volunteers could offload the donations by hand when they arrived at the pantry.

Good work, Elks Club #244 and Brewer Hannaford. Your communities appreciate you!
