Since the COVID-19 pandemic, nightlife across the Greater Bangor area has shifted significantly. Fewer people are going out, late-night crowds have thinned, and many venues are no longer staying open as late as they once did. The region has also seen a decline in live music venues, along with a noticeable gap in clubs catering to younger crowds looking for current dance music on weekend nights.

After briefly reopening in March, Mad Kat & Company, located at 391 North Main Street in Brewer, closed its doors permanently on June 8.

Despite the closure, the owners believed the property was ready for someone new to step in. They say they invested an additional $200,000 into the business over several months, including new refrigeration equipment, upgraded audio and video systems, tables, chairs, and a newly built bar.

The property offers more than 8,500 square feet of space, with seating for approximately 200 guests, making it a turnkey opportunity for someone looking to open a bar, restaurant, music venue, or entertainment business. And that's exactly what happened.

On Friday, November 6, Ubu's Tavern will open its doors, offering good food, cold drinks, and great vibes.
