If you frequently buy groceries from Walmart, the retail giant may owe you as much as $500.

According to an article on the WMTW website, the payouts will come as part of a settled class action lawsuit that alleged the chain overcharged customers for 'weighted' items.  These include pork, chicken, seafood, beef, and some vegetables.

Even though Walmart has denied any wrongdoing, they still agreed to settle the lawsuit by paying out $45 million.

According to the article, the settlement applies to customers who bought weighted goods and/or bagged citrus from Oct. 19, 2018, through Jan. 19, 2024.

What's the catch?  You need to have a receipt to get money from the settlement.

If you are like most people, you are probably not hanging on to a receipt for a pork roast that you bought in 2018.  There may still be hope.  Check the statements for your Walmart card or your online Walmart order history.  We cannot say for certain, but there is a chance that information may be in those records.  It's worth a try, right?

Also, keep in mind that the deadline for filing is June 5th, 2024.

Walmart was founded as Wal-Mart Discount City in Arkansas in 1962.  Since then, the company has grown into a massive multinational corporation that owns several retail brands.

Most of us became aware of the chain in the 1980s and 1990s, when it was a discount department store.  These days, the stores sell an amazing variety of goods.  They have small appliances to clothing, electronics, to toys.  Most locations even have a full grocery department and many have optical stores and banks.

As of 2024, the company has nearly 11,000 stores worldwide and, in 2022, had a gross revenue of over $611 billion.
