A Garland woman was arrested for the death of her 78-year-old sister from Hartland.

Garland, Maine Woman Charged With Murder for the Death of Her Sister

Bonnie Coombs, 69, of Garland, is charged with murder for the death of Velma Withee, 78, of Hartland. The two women are sisters.

Hartland, Maine, Woman's Body Was Found in a Home on Keenan Road

Withee's body was found in a residence on Canaan Road in Hartland on Saturday, April 12, 2025, by members of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called to assist in the investigation at the home on Keenan Road.

An autopsy was performed on Withee's body by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide.

Officials say Withee died of gunshot wounds. No comment has been made about what prompted Coombs to kill her sister.

On Wednesday night, Maine State Police took Coombs into custody and transported her to the Somerset County Jail. She is being held without bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
