
Maine State Police Release the Identity of a Hartland Murder Victim
Maine State Police have released new details about a murder in Hartland, earlier this month.
Maine Murder Victim Identified As Elderly Woman From Hartland
The victim has been identified as Velma Withee, 78, of Hartland.
Police have not revealed how she died but say the manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
The Woman's Body Was Found in a Home on Canaan Road
Members of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit in the investigation of a death on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The Sheriff's Office was looking into the death of an adult female found at a home on Canaan Road in Hartland.

Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed on Monday, April 14th, 2025.
The Police Say There's No Danger to the Public
Officials have not commented on what led them to the home where Withee's body was found or whether they have any suspects in this case.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation but the police say there is no known threat to the public.
