E-ZPass Issues ‘Special Alert’ to All Drivers in Maine
The Maine Turnpike’s E-ZPass program is issuing a warning for folks to stay alert and be aware of a specific scam.

It’s so easy to get scammed these days, it’s actually terrifying when you stop and think about how vulnerable we are. You can either block it out and hope for the best, or stay alert and prepare for anything.
With that in mind, let’s catch everyone up. What is an E-ZPass? What are its benefits, and why is it so important to be aware of the scams associated with it?
E-ZPass is an electronic toll collection system that lets drivers pay tolls automatically without stopping, using a small transponder in their vehicle. It saves time, offers discounted toll rates, and helps avoid long lines, but it's important to watch out for scams, like fake emails or texts pretending to be from E-ZPass, which can steal your personal information.
Now that we’ve established that, what is the special alert E-ZPass is issuing for Maine drivers and beyond?
The Maine Turnpike Authority and E-ZPass are warning drivers about a scam involving fake text messages requesting toll payments. They assure the public that they do not send text messages to collect tolls.
If you’re scrolling on your phone and receive one of these text messages, do not respond or click any links.
If you’re unsure and want to verify your account, visit ezpassmaineturnpike.com or call their Customer Service.
Once again, the Maine Turnpike Authority does not send text messages requesting toll payments. If you receive one, do not respond or click any links!
Have you seen these texts lately? Have you ever gotten one? We’d love to hear from you! Join the conversation by messaging us on the app.
