A teenage driver in Ellsworth was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and driving to endanger after a crash Monday afternoon on Red Bridge Road.

A 2008 Toyota operated by Georgia Connell, 18, of Ellsworth when off the road around 3:15 p.m. and rolled over in the woods. A 17-year-old female passenger was also in the car.

Responding officers “could smell the odor of burned marijuana in the vehicle,” Police Chief Glenn Moshier told the Ellsworth American.

Police said some marijuana was located in the car, but the teen did not show any signs of impairment during her field sobriety test.

The state recently legalized recreational marijuana, but only those 21 or older can use it legally.

Connell complained of back pain and was checked out by first responders at the scene.
