Eastern Maine Community College has canceled its large events in March, including the SkillsUSA competition, out of concern for COVID-19.

EMCC officials announced on Thursday that the decision was made, in light of current health issues and concerns. One of the events affected by the move is the SkillsUSA Maine competition, which was scheduled for next week at Eastern Maine Community College. Officials say they're hoping to hold the competition as a virtual conference.

In addition, the EMCConnect and Signing Day events, which were scheduled for March 25th, have been postponed. A new date has not yet been scheduled, but information will be posted on the events' websites. In a media release, college officials say they realize the disappointment these decisions will cause for some of their students, faculty, and staff. However, they feel it's a necessary move to ensure the health and safety of their campus and community. An informational page has been set up on the college website, detailing how the school is preparing for a possible outbreak.
