Animal welfare agencies are working today to remove animals from a residence in Hampden that they say has been the subject of on ongoing investigation.

Both dogs and a horse are being removed from the Coldbrook Road property. Animal welfare officials told WLBZ-TV that the seizure of animals is the result of an ongoing investigation into the farm's poor living conditions. Authorities say the owner was working on becoming a breeder, but had failed to make necessary improvements to the facility.

Among the animals removed from the premises are over 20 Great Danes, a horse that the owner surrendered on her own, and a cat. Animal welfare officials said the dogs were very cold. The owner's name has not been released. The animals were taken to shelters where they will receive the care they need.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
