A Kennebec County Sheriff's Deputy was injured when his cruiser was rear-ended as it sat in a breakdown lane.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened just after 6:15 Sunday night along Route 27 in Belgrade. Deputy Jeremy York, age 36, was parked in the southbound breakdown lane in his fully marked Dodge Charger patrol vehicle. As he sat there, a southbound Pontiac Vibe, driven by 28-year-old Schuyler Mann of South Portland, veered into the breakdown lane and struck the deputy's vehicle.

Deputy York and Mann's passenger, 27-year-old Katherine Hynd of South Portland, were transported via Delta Ambulance to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for non-life threatening injuries. Deputy York was treated and released by medical staff.

Investigators determined that Mann was tired and had fallen asleep prior to the crash. So far, there's no word on whether any charges will be filed.

State Police continue to investigate this accident.
