This has to be one of the coolest wildlife-encounter videos I've ever seen. A doe walks right up to a hunter and sniffs his pants before realizing he's a threat. All I can say is, that buck should be happy the doe was so brave. Probably saved him from being dinner!

I love deer. They're so beautiful! And yes, I'm a true Maine girl. I love them on my plate too! We have lots of deer in Orrington and I got fairly close to one last summer that happened upon the road about the same time I was walking the dog. (luckily Pernicus was much too interested in peeing on things to notice the large animal a few feet away) I was nowhere near as close as these two hunters, though.

If I were in this hunter's place, I would've been afraid to breathe, scared I'd frighten them off. I love that he just stands there and lets the doe sniff him. And how cool that they were filming when it happened?!

The video notes say the pair was hunting on public land when this happened. There are a lot of Douglas Fir trees in the area and that's why the buck's antlers are so ruddy. Rubbing on the trees can leave the rack looking red.
