Looks Like Corinth Will No Longer Be a Dry Town after Vote

Results from yesterday’s election are not official as of yet, but it looks like Corinth residents voted to allow alcohol sales in town.

The Yeas lead the vote by a narrow margin.

If the final voting results are the same, liquor sales will be allowed at businesses like Countryside Restaurant and Bakery

In a media release, Town Manager Stephen Fields stated

The residents of Corinth have spoken and decided to allow the sale of alcohol within the municipal boundaries except on Sundays. The approval provides a business an opportunity to make the decision on strategic growth with alcohol sales. All licensing requirements will be adhered to and processed with the State of Maine, Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, Division of Liquor Licensing and Enforcement.

The owners of Countryside Restaurant told WABI-TV5

We’re not trying to upset any of the community. I mean, we’re really big on the community here, but at the same time, Kenduskeag, Bradford, Dover, they all sell alcohol, so the town’s going somewhere to get it, and we might as well keep the sales here in Corinth

 

We just want to have a beer, wine with dinner, maybe a mixed drink. But, we don’t want to stay open till 1 a.m. I think the people, the naysayers, are thinking that’s going to happen. And, I just want to let those people know that that’s not the plan.

Final results are pending, and with such a close vote, both sides are standing by waiting for the announcement.
