Conway Twitty's son will appear in Augusta this month as part of a Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn Celebration concert to benefit homeless veterans.

It's hard to come up with a greater injustice than to find someone living on the streets after risking their own lives in protection of our national freedoms. Veterans sacrifice so much, even beyond the physical injuries. There's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and a number of other invisible burdens they deal with on a daily basis. For their contribution to our country, they should be guaranteed a roof over their heads and food on their tables. It's the least we can do.

But the reality is that too many Maine Veterans end up living in tents, even after they come home. Begging on street corners for enough money to feed their children. It's a tragedy that needs to come to an end. And there are organizations working to do just that. And it's not just about finding them a place to live, but also to make sure they have what they need to set up housekeeping, including everything from toilet paper to cookware.

Each year in Augusta, local musicians gather together to raise money for homeless vets. And this year's event has a very special guest star! Michael Twitty, son of the great Conway Twitty, will be performing, as part of a tribute to his Dad and Loretta Lynn! In addition, music will be provided by Peter Allen, the Overlocks, Deb Morin, Debbie Myers, the Allison Ames Band, Shirley Meyers, and Travis Pinkham. Great music all day!

The concert to benefit Maine's Homeless Veterans will start at noon on Sunday, September 18th at the Augusta Civic Center. Tickets start at $17, but the VIP tickets will include front row seats and a meal, with a meet and greet with Michael Twitty before the show! You can buy tickets by calling the Augusta Civic Center Box Office at 626-2400, or find them on Ticketmaster. For more information, log onto the event's Facebook page. Don't miss it!
