A Clinton man is dead after the vehicle he was operating struck a utility pole Sunday in Somerset County.

It happened on Route 201 in The Forks.

After arriving at the scene, a sheriff's deputy discovered tire marks on the road and then located a car with extensive damage to its driver's side down an embankment.

Joel Bishop, 31, was found dead in the car, police said.

Officers told WABI the car was speeding before it struck and snapped a utility pole.

The crash remains under investigation, and police say both speed and alcohol are being looked at as possible factors in the accident.
