Camp officials announced this week that Camp Capella in Dedham will not open this summer, because of the pandemic.

Heidi Riggs, Camp Director, posted the news on the facility's Facebook page this week. Camp Capella serves children and adults with a wide variety of disabilities, and does an excellent job of making sure all the campers are safe and healthy, while taking part in activities they might not otherwise experience. But the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic are making it impossible for camp officials to ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment for the campers.

Should those restrictions change, the camp staff will be exploring ways to offer alternatives to campers. In the meantime, staffers will be making some much-needed repairs to the facility and get it ready for the summer of 2021.
