Brewer Parks and Recreation has temporarily suspended all services after a staff member was exposed to COVID-19.

A notice on the Brewer Parks and Rec Department's website says all activities, meetings, and events at the Ferris Community Center, also known as the Brewer Auditorium, have been suspended until further notice. WABI-TV reports the reasons were explained in a letter that was sent to parents, stating a member of the staff was exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

No members of the Brewer Parks & Rec staff have shown any symptoms, including the individual who came into contact with an infected person. That staff member is now in quarantine for 2 weeks. No other staffers or campers have tested positive for the virus.

Brewer Parks and Rec has closed the Ferris Community Center, Summer Rec Camps, and individual activities, temporarily.

We contacted the city of Brewer about voting on Tuesday, and were told by City Clerk
Ronda Hogan that the polls will be open at the Ferris Community Center (Brewer Auditorium), as always. She said the Parks & Rec staff are staying away from the building while they're being tested for COVID-19. The facility has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, outfitted with the polling equipment, and will be staffed by polling workers, who are not part of the Parks & Recreation department.

Hogan said there will be hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies at the polls, and that voters are asked to wear masks and practice physical distancing to keep everyone safe. According to the city of Brewer's website, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14th.
