The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office responded to Bowdoinham early Friday morning for a report of a body in the water.

UPDATE: Officials have confirmed that the body has been identified as David Dieterich of Racine, Wiconsin.

According to the Portland Press Herald, officials originally had not speculated as to the person's identity. The body was spotted in Merrymeeting Bay, off Brown's Point Road in Bowdoinham just after 8:00, and was recovered less than an hour later and sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office.

The body was found six miles upriver from where David Dieterich of Wisconsin fell from a floating dock on April 18th. A search for the 35-year-old was launched on the Kennebec River and eventually abandoned when there was no sign of him.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
