Bangor State Fair Returns To Bass Park On Friday

The 167th annual Bangor State Fair will take over Bass Park for 10 consecutive days starting Friday, July 29.

Attractions this year will include mechanical rides, fair games, live music, eating contests, 4-H events and activities and an agricultural area, which will include Old McDonald’s Farm, Animal Alley and pony rides.

Grandstand events will include truck and tractor pulls, a demolition derby and mega trucks.

On the midway this year: performances from aerial stunt artists the Nerveless Nocks and an extreme alligator show hosted by Jimmy Riffle, an alligator trapper from the Animal Planet series Gator Boys.

Fair hours on weekdays will be 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the fair closing at 10 p.m. Weekend hours will be 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the fair closing at 10 p.m. Hours for the final Sunday of the fair, August 7th, will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Regular admission to the fair is $12 per person. Children under 3 will get in for free if accompanied by a paying adult. Groups of 10 or more can save on tickets by contacting the Group Sales Department at the Cross Insurance Center at 561-8311.

During the fair's Senior and Military Appreciation Days, August 1 thru August 3, folks 60 years of age or older and service men and women who present a military ID will get into the fair for just $5. The Maine Troop Greeters will have a booth at this year's event and are partnering with the Bangor State Fair to make the Senior and Military Appreciation Days possible.

A few other events will take place at the Cross Insurance Center while the fair takes place. Blue-collar comedian Ron White will perform July 30 at 7:30 p.m., an MMA event, “Dana White: Lookin' for a Fight,” will take place August 5 at 7 p.m. and Central Maine Derby will host a roller derby event at the venue on August 6. Tickets for certain events at the Cross Center must be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Cross Center box office.
