Bangor Rotary Collecting Food Donations Today in Bangor & Brewer
Volunteers for the Bangor Rotary are working to help feed those in need with a food drive today, taking place in three different locations.
Food pantries are very busy, these days, serving more patrons than ever. People who have never needed food pantries are suddenly seeking them out, after the pandemic forced them into food insecurity. Of course, those same food pantries are also trying to serve their regular patrons, so the demand for food has gone way up. And of course, we're all so busy just trying to get through our daily lives, that we're not necessarily thinking about donating to those same pantries. Concerns about social distancing and personal safety are also preventing people from donating through their regular channels.
So, the folks at the Bangor Rotary have put together a Caring Caravan food drive that will make donating easy, and out in the open-air. From 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, volunteers will be set up at Chapin Park and Fairmount Park in Bangor, and at the Brewer Auditorium, accepting donations of non-perishable food items. When you get to the location of your choice, just look for the vehicle and trailer with the Rotary logo on them. Everyone is welcome to stop by, but also asked to follow social distancing guidelines when donating.
At 7 p.m, those Rotary vehicles will be caravanning through the neighborhoods to offer their thanks to everyone who participated and spread some joy. The donations will then be taken to the Bangor Ecumenical Food Cupboard, the Salvation Army, and the Brewer Food Pantry.
