It's been a year. I know that's a statement that could be taken several different ways. But in this case, it's been a year since the Bangor Public Library has had it's doors fully open to the public. They shut right down tight at the beginning of quarantine, and have more recently been open by appointment. However, that's about to change a bit.

According to their website, BPL will begin letting folks in on a limited basis to browse their non-kids books. Granted, it's going to be a pretty measured approach at the beginning. For now, the library will be open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am - 12:00pm, and from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.

This will all officially begin on Monday, April 12th. And naturally, there are a few guidelines to be followed. For instance, everyone over the age of 2 years old will be required to mask. And if you're looking for other services, such as youth services, adult computing, or local history, you'll still need to make an appointment.

Some things will still be offered despite the public being allowed back in, such as contactless pickup of books. Folks who are still not ready to just walk in the door willy-nilly, will still have options to get their books, etc. These services will be available during business hours Monday through Saturday. Here's the re-opening FAQ from the BPL website for more information.

Granted, it's not a huge window if time to get in there, but it's nice to know that there are times you can get in. By the way, the 98 Wake and Shake Cafe will still be doing their thing there too. But now adding two indoor tables in addition to their outdoor seating. Great little spot, if you've never been there.

Again, it's been a year. But now with vaccine becoming more widely available, hopefully we can begin the slow return to normal. All of us could use a little bit more normal in our lives. And I can't think of anything more normal than heading to the library.
