Sgt. Jason McAmbley has been in law enforcement in Maine for almost three decades, and currently serves as the public information officer for the Bangor Police Department. Sgt. McAmbley was kind enough to join David on the morning show Tuesday morning, and here is what they discussed.

Police Officers in Maine Are Human

It's easy for many to be intimidated by a police uniform and badge. While the person wearing them has heroic and selfless characteristics, they are still human. Law enforcement officers have friends, family, and even a favorite football team (Sgt. McAmbley's is the Steelers - who currently has quite the battle for the starting QB position).

They have emotions, they have feelings, they want to go home after their shifts, and most importantly, they care about their community and fellow neighbors. They also can become extremely frustrated when things are going wrong in their community while not having the authority or jurisdiction to solve those issues.

They are law enforcers, not problem solvers. Unfortunately, just calling 911 can't solve one of Bangor's biggest battles right now, and that is with addiction and people who are unhoused. Sgt. McAmbley discussed how the most effective way to win these battles is through the community and its entities coming together and working together. Click here for the conversation.

How Do We Get Out of a Ticket if Pulled Over in Maine?

We certainly weren't going to NOT ask how we get out of ticket. Sgt McAmbley was quite candid and prompt when he shared his response of "just be honest." While breaking the law or having a traffic infraction warrants a citation, if you ever have hopes of receiving a "break" or a warning, Sgt. McAmbley shared that honesty and courtesy goes a long way.

We also discussed safety on the Bangor Riverfront Walk and school safety tips ahead of the new school year. Click here for the entire interview.

We look forward to having Sgt. McAmbley on with David & Cindy in the morning again soon and thank Bangor Police Department and all of our law enforcement agencies for their service and keeping our communities safe!
