Bangor, Maine News Update: August 15, 2017
The State Police have joined the search for a man who was last seen in February walking about a half mile from his house. The Hancock County Sheriff’s office and Warden Service have been investigating the disappearance of 48-year-old Russell Burnett for months but haven’t turned up any leads. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call State Police.
It was a scary situation Monday morning at the Auburn Lewiston airport when a fire-suppression system malfunctioned and filled a building with foam, trapping four people inside. Firefighters found a wall of foam higher than their heads, but were able to get to four people on the upper floor. Two of the people inhaled some of the foam and were taken to a local hospital.
A Winthrop man made a weird discovery in his backyard while digging a hole for a blueberry plant. The metal box was sort of a drug time capsule, containing old syringes, containers full of white powder, and a copy of the Boston Sunday Globe from October 2nd, 1955. He turned everything over to the Winthrop police, who are investigating.
Maine's U.S. senators say the National Science Foundation has awarded more than $1 million to the University of Maine for a host of research projects involving energy, Earth science and education. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King say the grants will help students and researchers promote education about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
A spaghetti dinner in Hampden on Friday, August 25th will benefit a little boy who was struck by a car while he played at the end of his driveway in Newburgh. 5-year-old Brennan Jordan is still in a Bangor hospital, recovering from the accident last month. The benefit that will run from 4 to 7 at Hampden Academy will include the dinner and a silent auction, plus folks are encouraged to bring their returnable bottles and cans that night too.
