Bangor Maine Needs an Italian Restaurant For Cozy Nights Out

I was surprised recently when I wanted to plan a date night at a cozy Italian restaurant and realized there aren't any in Bangor.

Before you say it, I know Olive Garden in Bangor, and their pasta is great. But I was looking for something more local, not a chain restaurant. I'm thinking of a small place with dark lighting, candles on the tables, and homemade breadsticks with seasoned olive oil for dipping.

Bangor, Maine, Has Had Some Great Italian Restaurants With Amazing Food

I was thinking back to Momma Baldacci's restaurant, when Momma's picture hung over the host station. Their spaghetti sauce was so unique, you knew it had been handed down through the family.

Who remembers Seguino's? It was in a renovated house on Main Street in Bangor, just before the tin bridge going into Hampden. Before they opened, owner Steve Seguino invited several of us from the radio station for a free dinner.

That was probably the best fettuccine Alfredo with lobster I've ever had.

And Massimo's, in downtown Bangor, which claimed to have the best bread anywhere. They still operate during the summer months in Searsport, and their bread is still delicious.

Delicious Italian Food Can Be Found Around Bangor in Restaurants With Varied Menus

Bangor has some excellent pizza places that also serve pasta, and many local restaurants offer delicious pasta dishes on their menus. So we're not lacking in access to the cuisine.

But I miss that authentic experience, where the restaurant smells like red sauce, cheese, and good wine. Hopefully, we'll see a new one soon. Maybe with some outdoor chairs for dining al fresco in the summer.
