The city of Bangor has closed its playground equipment and basketball courts, out of a concern for the spread of COVID-19.

In a post on the city's Facebook page, officials announced that playground equipment and basketball courts at city parks and schools are being closed to the public.

Health officials have advised that the closures are necessary to save lives and prevent additional exposure to the illness. These activities are considered possibly dangerous, not only due to a lack of social distancing, but also because it's believed that the virus can survive on surfaces.

City officials remind residents that city parks, trails, and downtown parkways are still open. They do ask that people practice social distancing when encountering others, and stay home if they're feeling sick.
