
Maine Mill Officials Identify 2nd Employee to Die From Gas Leak
Officials at a Woodland Pulp LLC have identified the second worker to die from last month's gas leak.
A Second Woodland Pulp LLC Employee Has Died After a Gas Leak
The mill has identified the worker as Allen Hornberger, who had been hospitalized since the incident happened on January 27, 2026.
Hornberger had been working at the mill since September.

Kasie Malcolm, a University of Maine engineering student who was working as an intern at the plant, died at the scene, as a result of the leak.
Chemical Safety Board Officials are in Maine Investigating the Woodland Gas Leak
WABI-TV reports officials with the Chemical Safety Board have been investigating the incident since just after it happened.
Initial reports suggest the incident may have involved the mixing of concentrated sulfuric acid with sulfurous compound in an enclosed process sewer, which may have created and released hydrogen sulfide, a highly toxic gas.
The incident happened in the Bleach Plant area of the mill.
